Ah, mes amis, after licking my wounds for a while, I have begun sending stuff out again.
I saw a contest, in Duotrope, that might lend itself to a flash fiction piece I’ve been shopping around for a while.
The deadline was two days after I saw the listing, so I read the piece over, dusted it off, changed a word here or there, and sent it in.
Right on schedule, I received notification that…my piece was not one of the winners.
Overall a good experience though. They thanked me for the opportunity to read my piece (a form letter, but a polite form letter, which reminds one that editors are not necessarily monsters).
Also: first rejection of the year.
At the same time I sent out a longer story (that I just wrote this year) to another publication, so I may have more rejection-y news for you. And I’ve committed to writing 12 new stories this year (#12For!2Stories on Twitter), so I should have a whole stable of brainchildren out looking for an opportunity to be rejected, soon!
Piece: Flash fiction (with mythological bent)
