I have this long short story I wrote as an experiment, that I was planning to self-publish. Then I saw a contest with a nice prize that was looking for stories from the local area. So I submitted. You never know, right?
They nicely said ‘your story did not place’, but my entry fee bought me a year’s subscription to the magazine I won’t be published in. Writers, we’re such masochists!
