101 Rejections : A Writer's Quest For Rejection

14. Novel Rejection

I met up with a few agents at the Writer’s Digest Pitch Slam in August.

The one I felt most likely to like my work got back to me today, after looking at the first 50 pages

“Unfortunately, I feel that in today’s market, I cannot take on projects unless I feel strongly about them. I’m sorry to say that it didn’t happen with this one. This, of course, is just my opinion and others may feel differently.
I wish you the best of luck with all your publishing endeavors.”

I think its nice that they worded it like this. Its not very instructive, but it’s not their job to instruct me; it’s my job to make it better, more compelling, or to find the agent who will connect with it.

A tiny part of me was relieved because I know the manuscript has a lot of work needing done before it’s really ready to be published, and now there’s no rush to do it. Hmm, that’s not something I’m proud to admit!
